Compress video to a chosen size

Pick the size you need — 8, 10, 16, 25, 50, 100 MB or your own. The file will not be bigger, and it will look as good as that size allows.

Private by design: this tool works entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to our server. Free, no sign-up, no watermark.

How to use

  1. Choose a video (several files work too).
  2. Pick the target size. You see the resolution, bitrate and expected quality before you start.
  3. Press “Compress on this device”. Large files are fine: nothing is loaded into memory at once.
  4. Compare a frame before and after, then download.

The tool counts the bits: size × 8 ÷ duration, minus a small reserve for the container. Speech needs little audio bitrate, music more. If the bits are not enough for the picture, it lowers the resolution (1080 → 720 → 480 …) and, if needed, the frame rate instead of giving you a blocky, smeared image.

It encodes with your device’s video encoder (hardware when available), checks the result and, if the file came out larger than the target, corrects the bitrate and tries again — at most three times. If the size is impossible at acceptable quality, it says so and shows the realistic minimum.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The default mode runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device. The “Quick on server” button uploads the file (it is deleted after an hour) and is meant for small files or slow devices.

Will the file really be no larger than I chose?

Yes. After encoding the tool checks the real size and re-encodes with a corrected bitrate if needed. 1 MB here means 1,000,000 bytes, so the file also fits a limit in MiB.

Why did the resolution go down?

At a small size there are not enough bits for 1080p: the picture would be blocks. A smaller but clean picture looks better. You can set the resolution, frame rate, codec and audio by hand under Advanced settings.

Which formats work on the device?

MP4, MOV and M4V (H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1), WebM and MKV — as far as your browser can decode them. Other formats can go through the server button.

What if my browser is old?

The tool needs WebCodecs (recent Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox). Otherwise use the server button.
