Add a text layer to scans so you can search, select and copy the text — or get the text as a TXT file.

Your files are uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed automatically and permanently deleted after 1 hour. Nobody looks at them. Free, no sign-up, no watermark.
How to use
- Choose a scanned PDF or a photo of a document.
- Select the language(s) of the document (up to 3).
- Choose the output: searchable PDF or plain text.
- Press Start; a page takes a few seconds. Download the result.
Recognition uses Tesseract via OCRmyPDF. Pages are automatically straightened and rotated. Pages that already contain text are left unchanged.
Frequently asked questions
Which languages are supported?
English, Russian, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese. You can combine up to three in one document.
How many pages can I process?
Up to 100 pages per file for free users.
Does the PDF look different after OCR?
No. The page images stay the same; an invisible text layer is added on top.
How accurate is it?
Clear printed text is recognized very well. Handwriting, very small text and low-quality photos give poorer results.
